Cultural and creative entrepreneurship programme in the DRC. Call for applications MOZALISI- KIN

MOZALISI-KIN is an entrepreneurship programme run by Africalia in partnership with the incubator Ingenious City. Its aim is to consolidate Kinshasa's companies operating in the cultural and creative industries (CCI), whose main areas of activity are the creation, development, production, reproduction, promotion, distribution or marketing of goods, services and activities with a cultural, artistic and/or heritage content.   

Through a 12-month incubation programme designed specifically to meet the needs of entrepreneurs in the creative and cultural sector, MOZALISI-KIN is aimed at entrepreneurs in the sector who want to consolidate their business in order to meet the challenges facing young companies and ensure their long-term success.

The programme is based on the conviction that successful businesses play an essential economic role in structuring and developing the ecosystem. They do this by supporting a network of partners and suppliers, creating decent jobs for young people, and driving economic and social innovation.  

The call for applications at a glance

Aim of the programme : Helping young companies in the cultural and creative sector to consolidate and grow their entrepreneurial activity.  

Target audience : Kinshasa entrepreneurs operating in the cultural and creative sector and generating income from their economic activity (product or service), but whose management and entrepreneurial and operational strategy still require adjustment. 

The key : An incubation programme consisting of training modules and tailor-made support in the form of business coaching and creative mentoring, strengthening companies' entrepreneurial management skills as well as their creative and cultural capacities.  

Target city : Province of Kinshasa, DRC  

Programme duration : 12 months - from March 2024 to February 2025

ITINERARY AND TIMETABLE 

Through this rigorous entrepreneurial programme, entrepreneurs will follow a 3-month pre-incubation pathway followed by 9 months of incubation during which their company will be supported in its structuring and sustainability through close monitoring. Throughout the programme, participants will benefit from individual business coaching, creative mentoring and access to experts on specific topics, to help them assimilate the practical and theoretical aspects of the entrepreneurial and creative training modules. 

The training and coaching programme requires the presence of entrepreneurs who have been admitted to the scheme for a total ofone day a week (minimum) throughout the 12-month programme. 

SELECTION PROCESS 

You can fill in the application form online by clicking on the following link https://bit.ly/mozalisikin from 15 January to 18 February 2024 (inclusive). Applications will be examined by a pre-selection committee on the basis of the eligibility conditions and selection criteria set out below.  

The selection process will run from 19 to 29 February 2024 :

  • 20 and 26 February 2024Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take part in two preparatory workshops: a pitch module and a coaching session. 
  • 28 and 29 FebruaryAt the end of the competition, candidates will pitch their projects to a selection committee.  
  • 1 March 2024the candidates selected for the programme will be announced 
  • 4 Marchthe first introductory module launches the programme

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 

The call is open only to companies with legal status that meet the following conditions:

  • The candidate is able to provide a proof of legal existence of the structure (RCCM / F92) 
  • The structure is legally registered before June 2022 
  • The structure is active in one of the sectors of the creative and cultural sectorradio; music; audiovisual; film; media; performing arts; design; fashion; crafts; visual arts; photography; architecture; cultural heritage tourism; video games; publishing; production of creative content for the digital industry. 
  • The structure's economic activity makes it possible to generate revenue through the sale and/or distribution of products and/or services and is not structurally dependent on subsidies
  • The main activity is in the province of Kinshasa
  • Eligibility requirements for NPOs : not-for-profit associations that generate their own income must transition to company status during the course of the programme.  

The following will not be eligible:  

  • Associations offering one-off and/or unprofitable cultural or creative goods or services. 
  • Public or semi-public bodies (state-owned companies, government agencies, etc.).  
  • Projects designed solely to promote the visibility of the project manager. 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Stage of development and growth potential 

  • The company is in the "early stage": the proposed product or service has gone beyond the idea, prototyping or first customer acquisition stage.
  • The product/service generates revenue 
  • The business strategy is still under review and the company would benefit from consolidation. 
  • The product/service demonstrates quality and the entrepreneur demonstrates expertise in the field 
  • The product/service has the potential to reach new markets and customers. 

Entrepreneurial learning potential

  • Need for support corresponding to the entrepreneurial coaching offered: managerial skills are lacking and need strengthening. 
  • The entrepreneur's commitment and motivation to follow the training programme

Ihe social and environmental impact of the business 

  • The product or service proposed promotes inclusiveness (in terms of gender, age, accessibility and/or cost).  
  • The company considers and manages the environmental impact of its activities.
