Slum TV is a grassroots media organisation based in Mathare, a large Nairobi slum where 500,000 people live.
Slum TV produces audiovisual material ranging from documentaries shot by local reporters to dramas and comedies produced by groups of young actors. The aim is to provide the communities of Kibera and Mathare with a means of documenting and transmitting what is happening in their neighbourhood, initially aimed at a local audience, but which can be extended to an international audience.
To further professionalise their training offer, Slum TV is at the origin of the ASMO (Alliance of Slum Media Organisations) network, which brings together audiovisual organisations from the slums. Thanks to this network, Slum TV, along with 5 other slum media organisations, has been able to set up a training course in film technology, in collaboration with a Kenyan university (KCAU), TVETA, PEN and Africalia.
