Call for Applications – Documentary Producers
The Great Lakes Creative Producers Lab unites aspiring producers from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Ethiopia. This exceptional initiative aims to tackle the hurdles faced by the film industry in East Africa, where the vital role of a creative producer is often misunderstood.
The initiative will kickstart the process of preparing projects for the global market by organizing a series of meetings. These meetings will delve into key areas of project development such as story, market positioning, funding, distribution strategies, as well as social and legal interactions with the core teams and contributors. Participants can expect a mix of group discussions and one-on-one consultations tailored to address the specific needs of each project.
Who Can Apply?
The Great Lakes Creative Producer Lab welcomes applications from producers who are officially connected to a documentary film. Applicants should possess the intellectual property rights to the project they are applying with and must have a director already involved in the project.
Producers from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Ethiopia are invited to apply. One producer from each country will be chosen for the Documentary Lab.
Each applicant is allowed to submit only one project, which can be in either English or French.

This residential program is specifically designed to nurture your creative instincts, improve your communication abilities, and sharpen your problem-solving skills. It’s the perfect opportunity to take your next feature film project to new heights!
Who Can Apply?
The Great Lakes Creative Producer Lab is looking for producers who are officially attached to a full-length, fiction feature film. Applicants must have control over the rights to the project they are applying with. While projects do not need to have financing in place at the time of application, each application must show a serious consideration of the film’s budget and explain the rationale behind the budget level. Please note that documentary, short film, new media, and episodic projects are not eligible to apply.
Producers from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Ethiopia are welcome to apply.
Each applicant can submit only one project, which can be in either English or French.
