Afrika Filmfestival

Afrika Filmfestival aims to bring high-quality, original and socially relevant films about Africa and its diaspora to a wide and diverse audience. Using the artistic means offered by cinema, Afrika Filmfestival aims to draw attention both to the development of this art form and to its role in society. It sees cinema as a means of bringing cultures and people together, extending culture and as a basis for social development. Cinema brings a more nuanced representation, the discovery of another way of life and thinking. By promoting African films, Afrika Filmfestival also contributes to the development of the audiovisual sector in African countries.

2025 Edition

The 30th edition of the Afrika Filmfestival took place from April 24th to 27th at Cinema Zed in Leuven. The program offered a striking mix of award-winning films and rare gems. The opening night was dedicated to the art of documentaries with Raoul Peck's 'Ernest Cole: Lost and Found', while the closing night highlighted resilience and hope with Yasemin Şamdereli's poignant 'Samia'. Two film competitions also took place during the festival: the Young African Film Makers Award (YAFMA) and the Belgian Shorts. In this way, we continue to discover emerging African and Afrodescendant talents in the world of cinema!
