Bayimba Foundation

Bayimba is a multi-branch organisation dedicated to promoting arts and culture in Uganda through cultural exchange and creativity. Bayimba organises high-quality arts festivals, provides training and workshops for emerging artists and encourages creative development.

The foundation's programmes and activities include the Bayimba International Festival Of The Arts, Dance Week Uganda, the Kampala International Theatre Festival and the Amakula International Film Festival.

Bayimba has also launched a number of important market-focused initiatives, such as DOADOA: a regional platform for networking and mutual learning between performing artists in East Africa.

Bayimba Academy is its education pillar, whose mission is to advance professional arts education, with the aim of becoming a recognised and accredited technical college offering professional training to artists and cultural institutions.

Finally, the culmination of its organisational development is the Bayimba Centre. The plan is to set up a world-class artistic venue, equipped for the performing and visual arts, offering spaces for performances and exhibitions, as well as training and productions.

Programme 2017-2021 Africalia's contribution covers the costs of management staff and expenses relating to Bayimba's main activities, such as its festivals and the development of the Academy and Centre.

Programme 2022-2026 : Africalia assists and supports the organisation in (1) strengthening associative governance and networking cultural players, (2) advocacy, (3) professionalising skills, (4) producing quality cultural and artistic works, (5) disseminating works more widely and (6) generating income.
