The inauguration of the “Kimpa Vita” project

On September 21st, the "Kimpa Vita" project was inaugurated. Initiated in May 2023, the Kimpa Vita project is supported by the non-profit organization I See You, in collaboration with the non-profit organizations Belgian Entreprenoires and A Free Kam. Following a call for projects from the Belgian federal government, launched as part of the International Decade for People of African Descent proclaimed by the United Nations, I See You wished to honor the memory of the Prophetess Kimpa Vita by renaming a park in her name and erecting a statue of her created in Kinshasa and placed at the entrance to the Park in Couillet. Africalia was proud to support this project as part of our Belgium program, which focuses, among other things, on supporting advocacy projects for the inclusion of people of African descent in our societies.

This sculpture was designed and created by the artists of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts:

  • Nyota Buzilumihalina
  • Francine Nsenda Ndaya
  • Gloria Tabasenge
  • Angel Kambay
