Aïda Muluneh is afraid of losing her memory. She's afraid of forgetting the looks, the hands, the landscapes, all the things that have been placed before her eyes by a suspicious providence. She wants to be able to draw up an inventory of them, for the days to come, as a testimony, a certainty that she hasn't invented anything. Proof to bring to a trial that is constantly adjourned. What could that trial be, if not the trial of identity? Not the identity defined by law, but the other identity, the one that makes us who we are. There are days like this, when we wake up in a hotel room, completely lost. For a few moments that seem like an eternity, our haggard eyes try to catch a clue that would tell us where we are. We are lost. People who were born somewhere, who have lived where they were born and who have never left probably don't feel this agonising dizziness. They have certainties. Aïda has none, except that of her humanity. She has always been displaced, a nomad with no real roots other than the virtuality of a homeland that is not really hers.
