Living Concert, Living Legends

As part of the 2024 call for projects of the Africalia Belgium programme, the project “Living Concert, Living Legends”, led by Rataplan, in collaboration with Junior Akwety and Aminata Barry, was selected. They organise a series of free and accessible monthly acoustic musical concerts for emerging and established African artists in Rataplan’s living space (the meeting café). Rataplan sees this as an opportunity to share different sounds and musical stories with a wide audience. And to offer an answer to the question “what is jazz”?
The jury was convinced by the ambition to build a bridge between the usual jazz audience, local residents, young people and African communities.
After a first edition on 10.10 with Zouratié Koné (Burkina Faso), they invite you again on 14.11 for Boule Mpanya (Congo) and on 12.12.
The concerts are followed by a conversation with the artist and curator. They share stories about their music, their instrument and their personal musical journey.
