Afrika Filmfestival 2017 - "Humanising Culture, Art and Media" conference

Afrika Filmfestival (AFF) will take place from April 21 to May 6, 2017 in Louvain (Leuven). As part of its brand new Belgium's Global Citizenship and Solidarity Education programme, Africalia is entering into a five-year partnership with AFF. This collaboration is illustrated in 2017 by the participation of Teddy Mazina (Photographer, Burundi) at the conference “Humanising Culture, Art and Media: Who defines the image of the “other” and how? Polarisation versus community building” on Friday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. at ABVV (Maria Theresiastraat 119, 3000 Leuven).

This conference aims to explore who defines 'the other' and how, who is this 'other' and why does it exist? It is important to break down cultural (and political) stereotypes and clichés. Questioning this is important for everyone and, more particularly, for those who produce these stereotypes. Can (audiovisual) art shake up the polarisation between 'us' and 'them'?

With: Guy Woueté (Artist, Cameroon/Belgium), Sefaan Mabrouk (Artist, Sudan/Belgium), Teddy Mazina (Photographer, Burundi), Ebele Okoye (Director, Nigeria/Germany) and Walter Verdin (Artist, Belgium).
