Conceived to mark the 50th anniversary of May 1968, 'The May Events' aims to be a platform for art and discourse - a series of activities - bringing together artists and researchers whose work straddles the worlds of contemporary performance, political discourse and social issues.
The programme put together by Italian curator Silvia Bottiroli focuses in particular on what is happening outside the Western world. She has invited artists such as Boyzie Cekwana (South Africa) and Faka (South Africa), as well as artist-in-residence Nkisi (DRC/Belgium). These artists will be invited to express themselves
and confront local guests from the University of Ghent or KASK.
The event includes a number of debates, performances, art installations and evening concerts.
The "May Events" is organised in collaboration with the KunstenFestivalDesArts in Brussels and the S:PAM (Performing Arts and Media Studies) research centre at Ghent University.
