On July 31st, our Kenyan partner Creatives Garage hosted the first edition of their new discussion series, ‘Unfold Conversations’. Held as part of Africalia’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the interactive panel explored the evolving relationship between culture and AI.
Unfold Conversations
With Unfold Conversations, Creatives Garage has launched a new series of interactive discussions on one of the most pressing topics in today’s cultural scene: how is AI transforming the ways in which we create? Creatives Garage describes these moments of exchange as ‘a physical space where artists, makers, digital tinkerers, and curious minds come together to unpack trends, challenge the status quo, and figure out how to ride the AI wave without losing our human touch’.
An interactive discussion
The first Unfold Conversations kicked off with a keynote address by expert Dr. Harriet Deacon, who shared insights on the relationship between cultural heritage, sustainability, and AI literacy and data governance. Following her contribution via video, Bukonola Ngobi moderated a panel discussion featuring Grace Murugi, Carole Kimutai, and Sarah Mallia, one of the entrepreneurs supported through the Afrique Créative programme implemented by Africalia. The event allowed the audience to discover the panelists' insights and discuss with them the challenges and opportunities arising from digital transformation.
Africalia looks ahead
The discussion was held within the framework of Africalia’s 25th anniversary. After 25 years of commitment to the flourishing of the cultural sector, we cannot stand by and watch as the world rapidly changes. That is why, together with our partners, we are looking ahead to the challenges of the next 25 years — and beyond.
