Ker thiossane EDD2016

Kër Thiossane is a research, residency, creativity and training centre that promotes the integration of multimedia into traditional artistic and creative practices and seeks to support the cross-pollination of disciplines. It is also a cultural and multimedia space for the artistic and civic imagination, focusing on research into art and the new technologies, and their implications for our societies. Kër Thiossane works to ensure widespread access to multimedia and digital tools, especially in their creative dimension, not just for artists but for the local public, too. During events which are open to all, in a setting unlike that of a museum or a traditional exhibition, Kër Thiossane seeks to create a different type of relationship with art and multimedia ; since 2008, it has organised three editions of the Afropixel festival on the fringe of the Dakar Biennale. Kër Thiossane is also West Africa’s first artistic and cross-disciplinary educational laboratory for practices involving free digital technologies. It is a local platform for the exchange of hardware, software and skills that offers support and guidance to the owners of cultural, educational and citizenship projects across the continent.
