On July 13 in Nairobi, our partner Creatives Garage<\/a> presented \u201cBlooms in the Dark,\u201d a captivating stage adaptation of Thay\u00f9\u2019s podcast of the same name. This anthology features stories of characters living on the margins of society who challenge societal norms regarding appearance, love, behavior, and more. From stories of creepy aunts to meager wages and creaky beds, the show delves into the complexities of real life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The production touches on themes such as gender, poor governance, religion and traditional culture, and raises thought-provoking questions about African identity, inclusion and leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through theater, poetry, music and dance, \u201cBlooms In The Dark\u201d presents the challenges and triumphs of individuals in search of their identity. These fictional stories lay bare the harsh realities and societal struggles of the characters they depict, recounting the universal quest to belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A quartet of award-winning female performers bring this powerful production to life. Thay\u00f9 and Wanjiku Mwawuganga wrote and directed the show, produced by Hellen Masido and directed by Chadota. The talented troupe includes Muthoni Gathecha, Riki Gathariki, Tana Gachoka, Koome Kinoti, Joseph Obel, Brian Njonge, Njeri Gakuo, Seise Bagbo, Rian Msani and Faith Rose. They are accompanied by a group of three musicians composed of Zaituni Wambui, Riki Gathariki and Anariko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
