Afrikera Arts Trust

AfriKera Arts LogoAfriKera Arts Trust aims to contribute to contemporary dance training in Zimbabwe and to turn Zimbabwe into a major player in the Performing Arts and dance milieu.

AfriKera encompasses the following projects: AfriKera Professional Dance Training (APDT), AfriKera Dance Ensemble (ADE), Essence of Women Dance Ensemble.

The previous Dance Foundation Course (under Dance Trust Zimbabwe, Africalia’s partner from 2012-2014) has been reconstituted in 2015 as AfriKera Professional Dance Training (APDT) under AfriKera Arts Trust. AfriKera offers to 15 young men and women a three-year contemporary dance training course based on a full-time and broad curriculum. The good reputation of the school makes that regular collaborations and productions with other dance groups and choreographers from the region are part and parcel of the educational programme.

This intensive training equips the dancers to navigate and be employable in the Performing Arts. This resonates strongly in Zimbabwe, where the majority of the public don’t view dance as a tangible way of making a living.

Programme 2015-2016: Africalia supports AfriKera Professional Dance Training’s core staff costs and training activities to improve dance and production skills to a group of 15 young dancers during 3 years.
