EXHIBITION: "Mabele eleki lola! The earth, more beautiful than paradise

At the AfricaMuseum

The AfricaMuseum and Africalia invite the artist from Kinshasa Freddy Tsimba in dialogue with the museum's collections. The exhibition is curated by the writer In Koli Jean Bofanewith the scientific contribution of Henry Bundjokodirector of the National Museum of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Kinshasa.

The title of the exhibition, "Mabele eleki lola! The earth is more beautiful than heaven". refers to the urgency of living in the here and now and the resilience shown by the Congolese people on a daily basis.

Tsimba's monumental works are being shown for the first time in dialogue with the museum's collections. The artist pays tribute to the work of the classical blacksmith and sculptor. Twenty-two installations of Freddy Tsimba, in this singular encounter, are facing thirty pieces from the museum.

Here, the curator invites us to come face to face with the memory contained in the ethnographic pieces and the spirit of Freddy Tsimba's works. For him, the objects in the museum are objects of memory that need to be activated. African artists and intellectuals have always been interested in the museum's collections. Opening up this heritage to new study, reflection and re-appropriation is a major challenge. crucial passage in the process of transforming the museum and its collections.

The exhibition will run from 29 October 2020 to 21 February 2021.
