The avant-premi\u00e8re of Will Anderson's first documentary was a great success at the Cin\u00e9ma Palace in Brussels on 17 February. \u2018Roots and Plates: A Story Of Afro Food In Belgium\u2019 follows Brussels social entrepreneur Roger Dushime, a culinary content creator specialising in Afro-descendant cuisines. The documentary project has received support from Africalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discovering Afro-descendant cuisines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With \u2018Roots and Plates: A Story Of Afro Food In Belgium\u2019, directed by Will Anderson with Mila Jones as sound recordist, Underdogs Creative Agency ASBL has produced its first documentary film. In the film, Roger Dushime gets to meet with some twenty people from the world of Afro Food in francophone Belgium. Each in their own way, they offer their perspective on the history and evolution of Afro-descendant cuisines. The film offers a unique perspective on Afro-Belgian identities through the lens of food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The documentary falls within the framework of the International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024)<\/a>, proclaimed by the UN. Africalia's multi-annual programme for Belgium supported the project through its support for Afro-descendant cultural operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A great success<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The preview on 17 February was a great success. In the presence of the creators and participants in the documentary, a packed theatre (re)discovered Afro-descendant cuisines and the stories behind them. The next screenings of \u2018Roots and Plates: A Story Of Afro Food In Belgium\u2019 will be announced by Underdogs Creative Agency ASBL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
